The Rockville Centre Lions Club hosted a great Dinner in the Dark on Saturday, May 21. The event brought both lions club and community members together to raise awareness for the blind and visually impaired. This event also facilitated greater understanding of the abilities of the blind and visually impaired community. Guests of the dinner were invited to wear blindfolds as they enjoyed their dinners to experience the feeling of being blind or visually impaired. This concept of “dinner in the dark” was a huge success!
The executive director of the Long Island Bombers, Ted Fass, was invited to speak to dinner guests about his experience and invite everyone to put on their blindfolds. He explained the ways that eating with a blindfold would mirror the real life situations of blind and visually impaired people.
