Game 1 - The Long Island Bombers vs Taiwan Home Run
In this game, The Bombers were the home team and battled from the start. Suffering from a deficit that the Bombers struggled to make up, Taiwan won the game in what was an exciting match, 11 - 7. Offensively, each of the Bombers starters scored, which made the game closer than the score reflects.
Game 2 - The Long Island Bombers vs Tyler Texas Tigers
This game was certainly the most difficult. The Bombers won the toss and elected to be the home team. In the late part of the first inning, just after scoring two runs, a rain and wind storm started and caused about a 75 minute delay in every game taking place. After the game resumed, the Bombers added one more run as did the Tyler Tigers, and the Bombers held on to win 3 - 1.
Game 3 - The Long Island Bombers vs Chicago Illinois Comets
This game certainly by far was all defense through the first three innings. Chicago in the bottom half of the third inning began to score runs, and maintained the lead. The final score was Chicago 11 - Bombers 1.
Game 4 - The Long Island Bombers vs Columbus Ohio Vipers
The Bombers scored first and maintained a lead throughout the game. The bombers were again victorious, 5 - 4.
Game 5 - The Long Island Bombers vs Tyler Texas Tigers
This like the beginning of the game with Chicago was a completely defense oriented game.
Several excellent plays were made by both teams. The Bombers once again were victorious, 2 - 1.
Semi-finals Game 6 - The Long Island Bombers vs Boston Massachusetts Renegades
The Bombers drew first blood and added insurance runs throughout the game. The Bombers defensively were operating at peak performance during this game. Holding off attempts by Boston to score, the Bombers held on to win, 6 - 3.
Consolation Championship Finals Game 7 - The Long Island Bombers vs Boston Massachusetts Renegades
As what tradition would hold for the Yankees vs Red Sox, this game lived up to any classic New York Boston rivalry. The Bombers were the visiting team and scored two runs in the top of the First inning. The Renegades answered the Bombers with two of their own runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie it up. The Bombers scored again in the top half of the second, but held off Boston in the bottom half of the inning to maintain a lead of 3 - 2.In the top half of the third inning, the bombers exploded for four runs to put them up 6 - 2. Boston immediately answered in the bottom half of the third with for runs of their own to tie it up. The Bombers were unable to score in the top half of the Fourth inning. Boston took their only lead of the game in the bottom half of the fourth, and lead going into the fifth inning, 7 - 6. In the top half of the fifth inning, the Bombers erupted for three quick runs and led 9 - 7. Boston was unable to score in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a great defensive stand by the Bombers. The sixth inning did not have either team score, and as the last batter struck out to end the game, it was by far a great game and a glorious moment for the Bombers. The Bombers were victorious in their second World Series in winning the consolation Championship. We tip our hats to all those teams we competed against, every team played the sport the best way possible and it made the game not only fun, but as close to the reality of the game of baseball as we know it. The Bombers would like to give special thanks to the Boston Renegades, for making both games on Friday and Saturday as thrilling and full of action. The Bombers have watched this team grow over the last few years, and by all means, are a joy to play. The Bombers would also like to thank Ken Bailey and his entire umpiring staff throughout all the games that we played. The crew of umpires called each game as fair as possible and were also a pleasure to work with during the course of the week.
As we celebrate our victory, we also share in the celebration of winning with the Taiwan Home Run. The Home Run were victorious in the Championship Bracket. In the championship game, between Taiwan Home Run and the Kansas All-Stars, Taiwan took an early lead and built on it. Kansas was determined to match them run for run, but ultimately, Taiwan was victorious with the score of 15 - 7.
Awards, Thank Yous, and Congratulations
The Long Island Bombers would like to take this time and thank all the current members of the team and those who joined us to our successful achievement. A special thanks and congratulations to #33, Frank Guerra, who achieved in his first World Series, the All-Star Defensive (MVP) award. His performance on the field was amazing and certainly kept the team fighting for every win. Frank averaged 7.4 defensive put outs per game, which in itself is amazing. Special thanks to Rita Carter/Overstreet and Jennifer Ash, who played with the team from the Stockton Stingrays. Thanks to the California Center for the Blind and Visually impaired for allowing Rita and Jennifer to play with the Bombers. good luck and looking forward to see the Stockton Stingrays in Houston Texas in 2005. |
